After a “Covid Canceled” CMH Heli-Skiing season, we make up for it by getting ski ready at Meadows and Sun Valley for 2 CMH trips this season!

Our first Heli-Ski Trip was to The Bugaboos. It is the place where heli-skiing was born more than 55 years ago. The views from the lodge include the iconic Bugaboos Spires. This lodge is the most historied of all of the CMH lodges and does not disappoint. It has a literal museum in the lodge showcasing all the climbing and skiing adventures since before its construction.
Our first day was blue sky sunshine and included below are some shots and a movie from that first morning there. It was a great intro to the week and got us excited for the days to come.

We start seeing the snow and mountains in the distance and begin to really get excited.
We arrive at the Heli-Port by 9am to catch our 10 minute lift to the lodge.
The provisions for the week, new staff, our luggage and of course, us, all get shuttled up. It takes most of the morning.
This is a typical room at the lodge. I lucked out with a corner room at the end of the hall.

Normally we all sit on large tables with 10 -12 people and eat family style. The Covid issue had us sitting as individual pods with our travel buddies.

This is Rupi, our first guide of the week. The sun hits us brilliantly on our first run up to the Bugaboo Spires. At the end of the day, we can see our tracks up here from the lodge!

This is "Heli-Waiting". We stack our skis up, clip the packs together and wait for the heli to land between us and the guide. The guide loads, while we get in the other side.
